Evolve is a four-versus-one first-person shooter for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, but now it's also a match-three puzzle game for mobile called Evolve: Hunter's Quest. The newly launched spin-off serves both as a companion app and a way to level up your character in the shooter.

Evolve: Hunter's Quest follows some fairly standard match-3 puzzle game rules: Line up similarly colored tiles in groups of three or more and create combo chains. Clearing tiles powers up Hunters engaged in battle with monsters on the top of the screen, and players can use power ups based on Evolve's weapons to clear groups of tiles. Developed by 2K's Cat Daddy Games, Evolve: Hunter's Quest features 100 missions and lets players upgrade characters in the console and PC game by transferring "Mastery Points."

The game's mechanics look remarkably similar to worldwide mobile hit GungHo's Puzzle & Dragons, the puzzle-role-playing game that serves as a solid template for match-3 games.

Evolve: Hunter's Quest will be available for Android, iOS, Windows Phone and select Amazon Fire devices as a free download from the, Amazon AppstoreGoogle Play Store and iTunes App Store. On iOS, the game is compatible with iPad 2, iPad mini, iPhone 4s, iPod 5 and up.
