Disney Infinity Toy Box creation comes to Apple devices with free app

Disney Infinity Toy Box 2.0 is bringing a sandbox world filled with Disney, Pixar and Marvel characters to iOS today, publisher Disney Interactive announced.

The free iPad and iPhone app allows cross-platform play between the mobile and console versions, with characters from the Marvel universe like the Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avengers and Spider-Man. Over a local Wi-Fi network, players will be able to construct their Toy Boxes together.

Disney Infinity: Toy Box 2.0, which also includes Toy Box Games and daily challenges, uses Apple's Metal technology. Revealed last year at WWDC, Apple designed the tech to give developers deeper access to graphics hardware.

"With the Disney Infinity: Toy Box 2.0 app, we wanted to give our fans the chance to build and play console-quality Toy Boxes on their tablets and smart phones, and Metal allows us to offer the highest-quality Disney Infinity experience, whether players are already on console or coming to the game exclusively through their mobile devices," said John Blackburn, SVP and GM of Disney Infinity."

Blackburn also said that owners of the original Disney Infinity Toy Box iPad app have been voracious Toy Box creators and players.

"Disney Infinity's mobile players have been some of our most engaged in our community," he said, "with iPad users downloading and uploading more Toy Boxes than all other platforms combined over the past year."
