Drop your iPad into a Gamevice this March to play games with a controller (update)

Wikipad's Gamevice, the controller shell for mobile gaming devices, will be available in "early March" to use with iPad tablets, Wikipad announced today.

Gamevice for iPad will cost $99.99 and will work with the iPad Air, iPad Air 2 and all three iterations of the iPad mini. Wikipad is "currently fine-tuning" Gamevice versions for mobile devices running Android and Windows, according to a press release from the company.

Wikipad originally announced Gamevice a year ago. At the time, the company said it was only working on Android and Windows products, and wouldn't specifically comment on an iOS-compatible Gamevice. As you can see in the image above, Wikipad has refined the initial design of the unit, making tweaks to parts like the buttons and analog sticks.

The device slaps PlayStation/Xbox-like controls — A/B/Y/X face buttons, two bumpers, two triggers, a D-pad and two analog sticks — onto an iPad. The tablet itself fits into the Gamevice via a Lightning connector. Four different models of Apple-based Gamevices will be available, depending on the tablet type and the Gamevice internal battery: one each for the iPad Air and iPad mini with batteries of 800 mAh and 1,600 mAh. The two units with the larger battery also offer 4G connectivity.

We've reached out to Wikipad to confirm pricing of the four models, and will update this article with any information we receive. Wikipad says Gamevice is compatible with "100s" of iOS games, with more information available on the device's website.

Update: A Wikipad representative told Polygon that the company has not yet announced pricing for the Gamevice models with 4G and a 1,600 mAh battery. The spokesperson also confirmed that the 800 mAh models for both the iPad Air and iPad mini will cost $99.99.
