Sony dropped a new trailer today for sci-fi film Chappie, the new movie from District 9 and Elysium director Neill Blomkamp, that reveals a whole lot more about the setting and story for the robot action-adventure tale. Best of all, we get a real good look at Hugh Jackman's mullet.
Chappie looks like Blomkamp's take on classic '80s-era sci-fi films, with hints of Short Circuit and RoboCop, featuring a robotic star who seems intent on tugging at our heartstrings until they're ripped to shreds. Expect the kind of gorgeous, grungy, hyper-realistic effects that Blomkamp is famous for, and maybe to mist up when Chappie does something both adorable and a bit sad. Based on the above trailer, we're not feeling super optimistic about Chappie's chances for a happy ending.
Blomkamp, who was once attached to direct a Halo film for Microsoft, recently revealed concept art for a film based on the Alien franchise.
Chappie hits theaters March 6. The movie stars Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver, Dev Patel, Sharlto Copley and Die Antwoord's Yolandi Visser and Ninja.
