Mr. Robot's second season is heading into even darker territory

USA's hacker hit, Mr. Robot, wrapped up its first season with a lot of killer twists and heavy plot points. But if the first season was dark for viewers, season 2 is going to be even rougher to sit through, according to the cast during a panel at New York Comic Con.

Cast members Rami Malek (Elliot), Carly Chaikin (Darlene), Portia Doubleday (Angela) Martin Wallstrom (Tyrell) and Christian Slater (Mr. Robot) joined creator Sam Esmail to chat about the first season in full and what the future might hold. According to Chaikin, the cast is just as much in the dark as fans are.

"Honestly, right now, I know as much as you guys do," she said. "I'm sitting here coming up with theories about what happens and all these things, and learning more information."

That hasn't stopped anyone from bugging Esmail about what's to come.

"It gets really fucking dark"

"When I tell them I don't want to talk about season 2," Esmail said, "they interpret that as—"

"'That I do want to talk about season 2,'" Chaikin chimed in.

Esmail did offer a little bit of insight as to what fans can expect when the show returns, such as the "precursor to how fsociety was formed."

"It gets really fucking dark," Esmail said. "I mean, really dark."

Malek said that Esmail has already warned him that tackling the second season is "gonna be tough."

"Whoa," Malek said. "You never said that to me last season."

While Chaikin hopes to see the relationship between Darlene and Elliot, as well as her relationship to Mr. Robot, explored — and Wallstrom wants to see Elliot and Tyrell share a smooch — Malek hopes for a few Shayla flashbacks. The actor also has some more basic requests for season 2.

"I'd like to eat something in the show and change my clothes," he said.
