Pee-Wee Herman joining Gotham

Returning to a character he's played before but on an entirely new show, Paul Reuben is reprising his role as the Penguin's father on Gotham.

Robin Lord Taylor (who plays Penguin on the show) confirmed the news during a panel at New York Comic Con on Sunday, Variety reported.

"Pee-Wee Herman is playing my dad! Oh my god. What the hell," Taylor squealed at the event.

Reuben, most notable for playing the aforementioned Pee-Wee Herman on The Pee-Wee Herman Show in 1981, played the role previously in Tim Burton's Batman Returns. Reuben played Tucker Cobblepot, the father of Danny DeVito's Oswald Cobblepot, otherwise known as Penguin.

Although there was no specific date offered for when Reuben would make his first appearance on the show, Taylor admitted he would be showing up, "very soon."

Gotham airs Monday nights on Fox at 8 p.m. EST.
