Another Spelunky record falls, and this one took more than five hours

Another Spelunky world record has fallen but, unlike past ones we've reported, this takes a lot longer than 101 seconds.

The record is for highest score, and the new mark is $3,404,400, set by Kinnijup over more than 5 1/2 hours this weekend. That is just $4,800 more than the record held by Twigglefly which, as Kinnijup points out, is a margin less than one diamond.

Kinnijup recorded the feat in two different videos spanning about two hours, 45 minutes each. The first leg is below; the second may be seen here, on Twitch. A breakdown of the run, with split scores, is available here.

Remember that Spelunky is one of the most unforgiving games out there — one death, and your show is over. Not only does it give those awesome speedruns their impact, it makes a nearly six-hour effort damned impressive, too. For the Spelunky-literate, Kinnijup has a more detailed recap of the effort over on the Spelunky subreddit.
