A new animated film based on the Resident Evil franchise is slated for a 2017 release.
Capcom is working with Japanese studio Marza Animation Planet to bring Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield and Rebecca Chambers to life. The computer-generated film boasts a crew whose credits include Ju-On (The Grudge), Ghost in the Shell, Death Note and other popular anime and features.
Details are scant at this stage, although the announcement confirms both domestic and international distribution for the film.
Resident Evil is not new to the world of cinema: Its live-action film series, produced by and for a Western audience, has found success across ten years and five entries.
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter began filming this August and is also set for a 2017 debut. The series' concluding installment will again star Milla Jovovich as Alice, and Paul W.S. Anderson will return to direct.
