Fallout Shelter update adds Fallout 4's Piper, Survival Mode and more

Fallout Shelter is giving you a few reasons to check in on your Vaults, thanks to an update for the iOS and Android game Bethesda released today. The developer detailed the 1.2 patch in a short trailer uploaded to its YouTube channel, as seen above.

One of the biggest additions to the game is cloud saves. You'll now be able to upload your Vaults to the cloud so you can transfer your beleaguered dwellers over to your various mobile devices.

For expert players, a new Survival Mode has been added that promises to up the difficulty. You'll also be able to skip over the Tutorial when starting up a new game.

Another nice addition: Raiders who break into your Vault can now be scavenged upon defeat. Bethesda is also hinting at a "mysterious individual" who, once found, will reward you with bottle caps.

In an act of cross-promotion, Fallout 4's Piper makes an appearance as one of its legendary dwellers. She's exclusive to the iOS version and comes with five free lunchboxes.

Fallout Shelter was announced at Bethesda's pre-E3 2015 press conference in June. It arrived in the App Store following the event, and became available to Android users in August.

The developer shared some stats on the popular game shortly following its Android release, including the number of gameplay sessions played (over one billion) as well as how many hours gamers had sunk into the mobile Fallout spin-off (more than 29 million).

Update 1.2 comes less than a month ahead of Fallout 4's Nov. 10 release. The major winter title will launch on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.
