Black Ops 3 gets time trial 'Free Run' mode, put your parkour to the test

Treyarch, the developer behind Call of Duty titles like next month's Black Ops 3, unveiled a new mode for the first-person shooter game this afternoon.

Free Run is a puzzle- and time-based competition that made its debut during today's weekly Black Ops 3-themed livestream show. Utilizing the game's new movement system, which allows you to perform wall runs and other parkour-style moves, the mode consists of four time trial courses.

Each course grows increasingly intense, with the difficulty ranging from beginner all the way up to expert level. The ultimate goal: Finish the course as fast as possible to earn your spot on the mode's leaderboards.

While the mode is predominantly focused on getting players acquainted with the movement abilities, Treyarch also showed off some of the included weapon-based challenges in the gameplay preview featured in the stream, which you can watch below.

Free Run will be available from the game's outset, so when Black Ops 3 arrives on Nov. 6 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, players can check it out immediately.

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 won't include the game's single-player campaign, but Treyarch made no mention of a similar exclusion of the multiplayer-focused Free Run on those consoles.
