When you boot up Assassin's Creed Syndicate for the first time, it'll take about six and a half minutes to get to the first playable mission, according to this video uploaded yesterday by a Polish source.

Jacob Frye, one half of a playable duo including his twin sister Evie, will learn the ropes of killing those who got it comin' in 1868 London inside a factory run by a tendentiously uncaring and exploitive industrialist.

Note that this isn't a 40 solid minutes of action, as plenty is given to observing the surroundings (and sneaking by oblivious child laborers — no wonder so many were maimed.) Evidently, when the entire factory grinds to a stop, no one, child or adult, thinks to point out the stranger leaping about.

A nice little halo circles the player's waist, identifying line-of-sight enemies when he or she is on the run. When a player is unseen but in audible range, the pointers change to waveforms, which is all a nice assist to the game's stealth mechanisms. Still, noncombatant characters seem content to ignore you if you just leave their area.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate, set in Victorian-era England, is due to launch Oct. 23 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One; it's been delayed to Nov. 19 on Windows PC. For more, see Polygon's hands-on impressions from E3 2015.
