Ubisoft opens new Club rewards program, but you can’t join just yet (update)

Ubisoft announced the Ubisoft Club today, a new gamer rewards program with plans to launch later this year. You can check out the premiere trailer above.

The Club is a cross-platform service that offers players the chance to earn experience, badges and Ubisoft's Unit currency while playing the publisher's games. Acquiring these can earn you additional privileges, like access to betas as well as Ubisoft store discounts.

A closed beta for the program was offered but is no longer taking registration, according to its official website. A concrete release date has not been announced beyond 2015.

Members of Ubisoft's current Uplay program might find this all sounding familiar. The trailer for Ubisoft Club was uploaded from the Uplay YouTube account, but makes no mention of that existing service whatsoever. Whether this program is meant to replace the publisher's current reward service remains to be seen.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate is the publisher's biggest upcoming title. Launching on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One Oct. 23, it has been delayed on the PC until Nov. 19. Read more about it in our hands-on impressions from E3 2015.

Update: A representative for Ubisoft reached to Polygon to clarify Ubsioft Club's relation to Uplay. "Ubisoft Club replaces Uplay Win as the free single platform that rewards our players," the statement explained.

"Uplay remains the account that enable players to access all Ubisoft services such as forums, customer support, Uplay shop, Uplay PC and Ubisoft Club. Rewards already earned in Uplay Win will automatically be transferred to Ubisoft Club. Ubisoft Club also creates XP/Levels and Badges to enhance the game experience."
