Report: Channing Tatum wants Edge of Tomorrow director for Gambit

After a back and forth with the studio, the X-Men spinoff film Gambit is finally being produced, and star Channing Tatum has an idea of who he'd like to see direct.

Tatum is rumored to have thrown his support behind Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow, The Bourne Identity) to helm the film he himself was close to exiting not too long ago, according to Deadline.

Rupert Wyatt (The Gambler) was originally attached to the project, but exited production last month due to scheduling conflicts.

While having the support of the film's star is one thing, Liman already has a pretty hectic schedule lined up over the next few years: He's currently in post-production on Tom Cruise's CIA feature right now and he's rumored to be directing the upcoming Splinter Cell movie starring Tom Hardy that's scheduled for release in 2017.

Polygon has reached out to 20th Century Fox for comment on the rumor and will update accordingly.
