After a four year break, the team behind the Underworld franchise is back for a fifth installment. Series star Kate Beckinsale is set to return and reprise her role as the vampire Selene in Underworld 5, with Theo James (Divergent) attached to reprise his Underworld: Awakening role as Selene's ally, David.
Underworld, which follows the vicious war between the vampire and lycan (werewolf) communities, has been around since 2003, but general interest has wained with each new installment, according to box office numbers.
Beckinsale and James will be joined by fresh franchise faces, too, including Tobias Menzies (Rome) and Lara Pulver (Sherlock) who will play the new formidable leaders of the different clans, according to a press release from Sony. Game of Thrones star Charles Dance will also return to the series to play the powerful, elder vampire, Thomas.
Newish director Anna Forrester is attached to the project with former director Len Wiseman attached to executive produce. Cory Goodman (The Last Witch Hunter) will pen the feature.
Principal photography on the project has begun in Prague, where cast and crew will spend 10 weeks shooting the film.
The film is scheduled to be released on Oct. 21, 2016.
