Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash gets amiibo support, online multiplayer

The new Mario Tennis for Wii U will support the Nintendo's line of amiibo figures and feature online multiplayer, the company confirmed today. Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, which launches on Nov. 20 in North America, will also feature at least one new playable character, Super Mario Galaxy's Rosalina.

Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash's amiibo support allows players to use the figures as "partners" in online doubles matches or against AI-controlled opponents in the offline Knockout Challenge mode. The more an amiibo character is played, "the more experience and skill it will gain," Nintendo says. Compatible amiibo include Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Yarn Yoshi, Rosalina, Wario, Toad and Donkey Kong.

The game's online and local multiplayer modes support up to four players.
