Stephen Colbert predicts all of Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Late night host Stephen Colbert has proven he has an extensive knowledge of pop culture lore once again.

During last night's episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Colbert broke down the most recent Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer and gave his own prediction as to how the entire movie would play out.

Before getting into his theory, however, Colbert wanted to be upfront with audiences. Although he and director J.J. Abrams are good friends, he swears he hasn't seen any of the footage from the new movie.

"He has told me nothing, including what J.J. stands for or what his phone number is," he joked.

Still, that didn't stop him from giving an analytical take on the trailer that's been viewed online over 51 million times.

"The newly named Resistance fights in place of the Rebel Alliance, which has started a tragic shift to the dark side," he suggested. "But John Boyega's character is in a Stormtrooper suit, so it follows that now the new new hope comes from the very enemy we've been trained to hate."

Colbert has some interesting takes on just what this theory could mean for the balance of good and evil in the Star Wars universe, which you can see in the video above.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the seventh installment in the franchise and will hit theaters on Dec. 18, 2015. Polygon also broke down the trailer and provided our own in-depth analysis, which can be read here.
