Download all the Tribes and Starsiege games for free right now

The entire Tribes series, including its predecessors Earthsiege and Starsiege, are free to download from the series' official website, Tribes Universe, thanks to Hi-Rez Studios.

Fans of Tribes, which is touted as the "world's fastest shooter," can download the PC versions of Earthsiege, Earthsiege 2, Starsiege, Starsiege: Tribes, Tribes 2 and Tribes Vengeance as freeware from the series' website. Surprisingly, fans can even download the PlayStation 2-exclusive Tribes: Aerial Assault as an ISO, if you want to play that game in an emulator. 2012's Tribes Ascend was already a free-to-play title.

While the revelation that the entire Tribes series was now free to download made the rounds on Reddit and other sites this week, Hi-Rez president Stew Chisam said the games have been available for free for months now.

"Believe it or not, the website has been live in its current state since July," Chisam said in an email to Polygon. "We thought that it was a fun easter egg that diehard fans of the franchise would appreciate if they ever happened to stumble across it. We also just saw it as a fun use of the TribesUniverse.com URL, which we have owned since we took over custody of the Tribes IP in 2010.

"We're very humbled to be the custodians and guardians of the Tribes/Starsiege IP, and more than anything, we are simply huge fans. Our predecessors at previous studios created a rich universe and an amazing set of games. We are proud to be associated with it."

Hi-Rez is currently working on competitive action games Smite for Windows PC and Xbox One and Paladins, which enters closed beta on Nov. 17.
