Shin Megami Tensei 4 gets a companion piece next year

Atlus announced its next Shin Megami Tensei game today. Titled Shin Megami Tensei 4 Final, it is neither a sequel to nor a remix of its namesake.

After reaching a 15,000 tweet threshold launched earlier today to trigger the reveal, Atlus shared the logo on the MegaTen Twitter as well as the official site for the game, which is now live.

Atlus promises to share more details about Shin Megami Tensei 4 Final during a livestream on Oct. 11. In the meantime, an article in Famitsu has a few bits of information to work from. According to the Japanese gaming magazine's latest issue, the game is based upon the setting of Shin Megami Tensei 4 for Nintendo 3DS. It will be available on the Nintendo handheld on Feb. 10, 2016.

Famitsu also has the first look at the game's characters, as well as some of the demons that are key to the series' gameplay. There's not much to go off from the artwork alone, other than acknowledging that green seems to be the color scheme this time around.

Shin Megami Tensei 4 was the most recent entry in Atlus' flagship demon-bartering role-playing game franchise. Its popular spin-off series, Persona, will launch its fifth title next year as well.

A crossover with the Fire Emblem series is also in the works. Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem will launch on Wii U in 2016.
