Back when the Halo 5: Guardians Limited Collector's Edition was announced, there was some consternation over the fact that it would include a digital code for the game. Microsoft assured players the $249.99 version of their upcoming exclusive would ship earlier than launch day to allow buyers to pre-load the game — and the certain-to-be-hefty day one patch — before Halo 5 unlocks on October 27. But some Halo fans cried foul, demanding a physical version of the release.
In July, Microsoft announced that it would allow buyers to somehow secure a physical copy of Halo 5 in place of the digital copy in the LCE, and today the Xbox Support page was updated with information about how that works, and it's all fairly straightforward. From Microsoft's support page:
Here’s how you exchange your digital code for a physical disc.
- Open the Contact Us page.
- Select "Chat with Microsoft Support" to chat with a support agent.
- Once you’re connected, inform them that you want to exchange your unredeemed digital code for Halo 5: Guardians for a physical disc.
- You'll need to provide the agent with the following information:
- Your Xbox gamertag
- Your email address
- The token's 25-character code
- Your address for shipment
Once the order has been placed, you should receive your disc, along with a code for you to redeem the additional LCE content (Warzone REQ Bundle and Halo: The Fall of Reach), within 3-5 business days.
There is a catch, however. Microsoft is only offering exchanges of the digital version of Halo 5 for a physical copy From October 20 to November 1, so you'd best get a move on if you're still married to physical media to go along with your massive packaging and figurines.
