Captain America getting a makeover, punching everyone in the face next March

Aye, Cap'n, this is Disney Infinity 3.0

Captain America and his new toy will lead the charge in Marvel Battlegrounds, a Disney Infinity 3.0 Play Set that will pit Marvel heroes against villains in March 2016, Disney Interactive announced this week.

Developed by United Front Games, the studio behind ModNation Racers and Sleeping Dogs will bring four-player gameplay to the toys-to-life franchise for the first time with Marvel Battlegrounds. Existing Disney Infinity Marvel characters will be compatible with Marvel Battlegrounds, who will duke it out in a new battle arena. Disney will also release new action figures like the Captain America pictured above and those hinted at in the gallery below.

Other Marvel Battlegrounds characters include Ultron and Iron Man in his Hulkbuster armor, both callbacks to last year's blockbuster Avengers: Age of Ultron. An original story in which Loki and Ultron team up and create robotic versions of Marvel superheroes will serve as the backdrop.

"We worked closely with the Disney Infinity development team to come up with new gameplay and storyline for Marvel Battlegrounds that is unique to the platform," said Jay Ong, VP of Games, Marvel Entertainment. "We’ve created an authentic Marvel story that will give players the freedom to choose any Marvel figure in Disney Infinity and have them face off against each other in an arena style combat."

Disney Infinity 3.0 launched in August with Star Wars characters staking center stage. Marvel's superheroes took the spotlight in Disney Infinity 2.0. For more on the latest game, which nearly make our reviewer throw up, be sure to read Polygon's Disney Infinity 3.0 review.
