Konami working to make prosthetic for Metal Gear Solid fan

In need of a new limb, a Metal Gear Solid fan is getting some help from the publisher of his favorite series, as well as engineers, roboticists and prosthetics artists.

Konami Entertainment Europe shared that it is working with a British prosthetic artist to "produce a highly stylized and multi-functional limb for 25-year-old James Young," the MGS fan who lost his arm and leg in a train accident.

Konami is collaborating with Sophie de Oliviera Barata, founder of the Alternative Limb Project, which designs custom prosthetic for those in need. Konami became involved in part after finding out that Young was a fan of the stealth action series.

Not only was the studio compelled to help for that reason, but because of the personal connection to the series' latest entry. In Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, Big Boss himself is the owner of a prosthetic arm.

Konami has dubbed the limb-building collaboration The Phantom Limb Project, and will maintain a blog charting the progress in creating a Metal Gear Solid-influenced set of limbs for Young. A documentary following the production is also in the works.
