A tour of Mount Everest will be available on VR platforms next year, according to publisher Sólfar Studios, which also released a short trailer today (above).
Everest VR will take users through Basecamp, the Khumbu Icefalls, up Lhotse Face, through the Hillary Step and finally to the summit. It's being created in partnership with visual effects and animation house RVX.
"Our mission is to construct the definitive experience of what it feels like to climb Mount Everest," said Sólfar CEO Kjartan Pierre Emilsson. "It's a feat that most will never attempt in the real world. Everest VR will immerse you in a virtual reality that feels both real and emotionally stunning."
Sólfar is building a virtual mountain based on more than 300,000 high resolution images of the mountain range, and a 3D point cloud of the area. No word yet on specific platforms.
