What is the future of True Detective?
That's the question surrounding the announcement that show creator Nic Pizzolatto has signed an exclusive development contract with HBO through 2018.
According to an HBO release, Pizzolatto is in talks with the network over a number of new possible projects, which may or may not include a new season of True Detective.

The release, however, did not specify as to whether or not True Detective has been renewed for a third season at this time.
Despite the first season debuting to high ratings for the network and overwhelming critical acclaim, the lackluster second season seemed to leave a bitter aftertaste in the mouths of most audience members.
According to Entertainment Weekly, a third season for the show is currently not being discussed at this time, meaning that it definitely won't premiere next summer, and probably won't air in the fall if the studio decides to push forward with it.
It is unclear at this time what other projects Pizzolatto may be developing for the network.
