Star Wars: The Force Awakens has already made $50 million

There's just under a month until Star Wars: The Force Awakens is officially released, but the film's already broken a bunch of records.

Now, it's just set a new record, taking in $50 million at the North American box office four weeks early. That's double what The Dark Knight Rises did in 2012, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, one third of all sales for The Force Awakens were IMAX tickets.

The ticket sales put The Force Awakens on track to overtake Jurassic World with the biggest debut of all time in North America. The latter made $208.8 million in its opening weekend, and experts believe that The Force Awakens could easily surpass that, potentially hitting $300 million.

Ticket pre-orders have been available since Oct. 19, the same day the last official trailer for the film was aired, and caused sites for AMC, Fandango and the Alamo Drafthouse to crash under the amount of traffic.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters Dec. 18.
