November gave Netflix users Jessica Jones and Master of None. December will give subscribers Adam Sandler's controversial film The Ridiculous 6, but don't worry, there are still some interesting titles to stream over the holidays.
Bill Murray's anticipated Christmas special, A Very Murray Christmas, will be available to stream on Dec. 4. The special is being helmed by Sofia Coppola (whom Murray previously worked with on Lost in Translation) and features a wide array of top talent including Amy Poehler, George Clooney, Michael Cera and Chris Rock.
In the latest trailer for the special, nothing is going as planned as Murray scrambles to put together a half-decent show that Cera begins to call a "Christmess." In typical Murray fashion, the special looks like it will be full of self-deprecating humor and blank stares, so keep in mind this will be a very specific type of comedy.
Bill Burr's new cartoon series, F is for Family, will also debut its entire first season next month. Keeping in line with other cartoon series geared toward a mature audience that have found a home on Netflix, including Archer and BoJack Horseman, F is for Family appears to be a raunchier Wonder Years. Set in the 1970s, the show is an exaggerated take on the comedian's life growing up in a lower-middle-class family and the trouble he got into as a boy.
Fans of the British series Black Mirror will also finally be able to watch the Christmas special that aired last year on the BBC, "White Christmas." The special starred Mad Men's Jon Hamm, and told three separate stories over the course of 90 minutes. It's full of technological paranoia found within the first two seasons of the show that viewers should appreciate.
Of course, there are tons of films hitting Netflix next month, but none are the kind of attention The Ridiculous 6 has. Sandler's first of four films he's contracted into making exclusively for the streaming service, The Ridiculous 6 follows a group of cowboys as they set off across the Old West trying to find the father they realize connects them all.
The movie made headlines a while back when a group of Native American actors stormed off the set and claimed Sandler's comedy was full of derogatory insults and was incredibly offensive. While Sandler apologized for the miscommunication, he never addressed whether changes were made to the script after the fact.
One movie heading over to Netflix that should not be missed is Tangerine. The film debuted earlier this year and received huge critical acclaim for its innovative shooting using an iPhone camera and its genuine take on the lives of transgender individuals. Although the film never found mainstream success and was restricted to limited theater viewing, conversations have recently popped up that it could be an Oscar contender for Best Picture.
To make room for all the new television shows and movies, Netflix has to remove a bunch of titles, too. Basically, if you haven't seen David Bowie's incredible Labyrinth, you're going to want to rectify that as soon as possible.
