Rory McIlroy PGA Tour developer EA Tiburon released the fourth content update for the golf game yesterday, adding a new course, a new golfer and four additional modes.
The patch brings in Quail Hollow Club, which is located in Charlotte, North Carolina. It is the first time that course has been available in a golf game from EA Sports. Quail Hollow is the fourth course that EA Tiburon has added to Rory McIlroy PGA Tour since the game launched in June, following TPC Scottsdale in August, East Lake Golf Club in September and the fantasy locale Treasure Island last month.
Quail Hollow's debut raises the number of courses in Rory McIlroy PGA Tour to 16 — 11 real-life locations and five fictional ones. This finally brings the game in line with the amount of content in the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series, whose last three entries each offered 16 to 20 courses on the disc. Two more real courses are still coming between now and March 2016: TPC Stadium at PGA West in La Quinta, California, and Oakmont Country Club in suburban Pittsburgh.
Yesterday's patch also added Swedish golfer Henrik Stenson to Rory McIlroy PGA Tour's roster of playable athletes. He is the game's second DLC golfer, following Dustin Johnson last month. Four new gametypes are included in the patch as well: Skins, Best Ball, Four Ball and Alternate Shot, all of which have been available in previous golf games from EA but were missing at launch in Rory McIlroy PGA Tour.
In our review of Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, we praised its new swing mechanics but lamented its thin feature set. All of the aforementioned updates, including the future additions, are free patches. You can see two screenshots of Quail Hollow below.
