Techland raises price of Dying Light's expansion and season pass, explains why

Dying Light developer Techland made the unusual move today of raising the previously announced price of the game's upcoming expansion, The Following, and the game's season pass. In an email, the company explained its decision to bump the expansion's price from $14.99 to $19.99.

"Over the past weeks Dying Light: The Following has almost reached its final stage: main quests, side quests, new skills, and driving challenges are ready," the studio said. "We now are moving into the polishing period. Looking at it, it's clear how big the expansion pack has grown — it could be a standalone title, but since it would mean a launch delay, we decided against it."

Techland originally announced the The Following's $14.99 pricing back in August. The expansion is included as part of Dying Light's season pass, which was originally priced at $19.99. Given the price increase of The Following, Techland is bumping the price of the season pass an additional $10 — but that change won't go into effect until December.

Here's what Techland had to say about the price increase:

Starting December 8th 2015, the Season Pass will be sold at $29.99. We didn't want this to come as a surprise to you, so we're announcing it in advance. This price change will not affect players who already own the Season Pass.

So if you're looking forward to Dying Light: The Following, you still have time to get the whole Season Pass package, including the expansion, at only $19.99. Just remember to do it before Dec 8th.

Dying Light: The Following is expected to hit PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One sometime in the first quarter of 2016. For more on the original game, read Polygon's review.
