Update: Sony's Network Service Status is currently reporting no problems, while the frequency of Twitter complaints about PSN being down have slowed significantly.
Multiple PlayStation owners are reporting that PlayStation Network is down, citing a maintenance message.
Today is one of the busiest days of the year for online games as players try out new games bought in sales, or simply have the day off and are playing games. Twitter search "PSN down" currently features hundreds of messages and there's a thread on NeoGaf where some people say they are able to connect, but many are experiencing problems.
Sony is currently running a major sale on its online site. The company posted a message on its support page stating that, "you may have some difficulty accessing features and products on the PlayStation Store. Our engineers are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, and we thank you for your patience."
Sony's network status page is currently showing the message below, adding that "you may have some difficulty launching games, applications, or online features."
Bungie also posted a tweet about the issue.
Players on PlayStation 4 may be unable to connect to Destiny servers. Thank you for your patience as we investigate the cause of the issue.
