Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 sets release date

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is officially scheduled to arrive Feb. 23, after publisher Electronic Arts first announced it as an "early 2016" title at E3 2015.

This news comes out of a new trailer for the latest Plants vs. Zombies game, which you can watch above. Alongside the release date, it offers a brief look at a bit of the sequel's new gameplay with a specific shout-out to fans of another one of EA's big franchises: Mass Effect.

One of the zombies in Garden Warfare 2 can compensate for its lower stats by calling upon a mech. The Z7 suit (get it?) makes its debut in the teaser, which sports the pun-skewing title of "Grass Effect." The suit is available to those who pre-order the game, as are 14 custom character emojis.

The follow-up to the popular third-person shooter first debuted at the June event and will offer up to four players to choose a side and fight either cooperatively or competitively using a variety of weapons.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 will be available on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. We went hands-on with the game last month and checked out some of its brand new co-op modes.
