Quentin Tarantino wants audiences to spend the holiday season with people they can't stand. At least, that’s according to the latest trailer for his upcoming film, The Hateful Eight.
Set six to 12 years after the events of the Civil War, The Hateful Eight follows bounty hunter John Ruth (Kurt Russell) and fugitive Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh) as they race through Wyoming to get to the town of Red Rock where Domergue will be hanged. Before they can get there, though, they encounter a couple of strangers and wind up having to take shelter from a blizzard at a stagecoach stopover on a desolate mountain pass, where they encounter a few more questionable characters.
Unlike the previous trailers, the new one hones in on Samuel L. Jackson's rival bounty hunter character, Major Marquis Warren. Far more violent than the previous trailers, fans of Tarantino's work will be quite familiar with the intense stare downs between characters before being able to glimpse some of the shootouts that will take place in the movie.
The trailer also gives one of the more linear takes on the complex storyline, reintroducing all eight main characters and exploring how they fit into each other's narrative.
The Hateful Eight is scheduled to be released in select theaters and on 70mm print Christmas Day, with a wider, digital release scheduled for Jan. 8.
