Bloodborne players will get some new content later this month, even if they don't pick up the game's expansion, The Old Hunters, Sony announced today. A patch that will apparently prep Bloodborne for The Old Hunters' arrival will add a new weapon, more cooperative NPCs and a feature called The League.

According to a post on the PlayStation Blog, The League is a group of Hunters that sounds akin to a Dark Souls covenant. Joining The League will let players assist other Bloodborne players online and compete in the group's online ranking leaderboard. The patch will also add The League Cane, a new weapon.

Sony also confirmed another new weapon for The Old Hunters: the Moonlight Holy Blade. Longtime From Software fans will recognize this as Bloodborne's version of the Moonlight Greatsword, the heavy weapon that appeared in King's Field and Dark Souls.

Finally, Bloodborne players in North America who acquire the game's platinum trophy will get an exclusive PS4 theme based on the game. Bloodborne players in Europe were treated to that free theme earlier this year.

Bloodborne: The Old Hunters is slated to launch Nov. 24. For more on the expansion, read Polygon's hands-on preview from Tokyo Game Show.
