Despite director J.J. Abrams announcing there wouldn't be any more Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailers leading up to the film's release, fans just got the most revealing version yet.
Walt Disney Studios Japan posted the new trailer on their YouTube page Friday morning, and although some of the scenes can definitely be found in the English version that aired a couple of weeks ago, there's some wild new footage.
Near the beginning of the trailer, for example, Rey (Daisy Ridley) can be heard talking to an unknown character off screen. She asks said character where they come from and then announces she knows all about waiting as she's been waiting for, "her family."
In the scene that directly follows, villain Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) storms what appears to be Rey's village with a mass of Stormtroopers, burning every house in sight to the ground as they hunt down an unknown character. Whether that person in question is Rey or not is up for debate, but the sequence of footage in the new trailer seems to insinuate that's the case.
Kylo Ren and Rey definitely take center stage in the new trailer, and if the loose narrative is anything to go off of, it looks like a large portion of the movie will be Ren hunting Rey down. In one telling scene near the end of the trailer, Rey and Ren are in a forest, with Rey kneeling forward on the ground, terrified, as Ren stands beside her, his lightsaber held menacingly against her neck.
The trailer is available to watch in English, with Japanese subtitles sprawled across the bottom of the screen.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will open in theaters on Dec. 18.
