Notably, the list carries the disclaimer: "Games and availability subject to change." Microsoft is continuing to take fan-voted feedback on games to get backward compatibility, but the decision also rests with that game's publisher.
Backward compatibility on Xbox One works when an Xbox One owner has the physical disc of the compatible game and loads it into the console. The version the Xbox One plays is downloaded from the Xbox Live Marketplace for free.
Microsoft announced backward compatibility at E3 2015 with support for 18 games at the time, opening up a poll on the ones gamers most wanted to see supported this fall. Fallout 3 is the highest vote-getter to be supported, though that was announced by Bethesda back in June as well.
Microsoft said more titles will be added to the backward compatibility list in the coming months, including Halo Reach, Halo Wars, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Bioshock, Bioshock 2, Bioshock Infinite, and Skate 3. Reach, Black Ops and the BioShock series were all big vote-getters on the feedback poll. Additionally, other publishers have suggested big name Xbox 360 titles like Deus Ex: Human Revolution may be on the way soon.
Beginning this month, all Xbox 360 games offered in the Games With Gold program to subscribers will be playable on Xbox One.
