Five Nights at Freddy’s novel hits stores next year (update)

Coming to Kindle and hardcover

Five Nights at Freddy's is heading to bookstores: Designer Scott Cawthon revealed on the game's Steam forum that a novelization of the popular horror series will arrive in 2016.

Cawthon and an unnamed professional writer are collaborating on the Five Nights at Freddy's book, which will release first as an e-book. It will be available in a physical version in bookstores at a later date.

Cawthon didn't share when you can expect to read about outlasting the after-dark horrors of Freddy Fazbear. He did write, however, that the book will expand upon the series' mythology and introduce "a human element never-before-seen in the games."

This is just another new venture for Freddy and his cohort as the series moves beyond its survival horror game roots. The game's developer revealed in September that he was working on a role-playing game for the franchise's next entry. The colorful Five Nights at Freddy's World will hit iOS, Android and Windows PC next year and, based on its teaser trailer, is decidedly not meant to scare players.

Update: Scott Cawthon has updated his website with an official teaser for the novel. Five Night's at Freddy's: The Untold Story will be available for Amazon Kindle devices on Dec. 22. A physical release remains unscheduled.
