The new Kojima Productions may make more than just games

Hideo Kojima eyes movies and animation

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima has a new studio and a new game in the works for PlayStation 4 and PC. But Kojima and his team at the new Kojima Productions won't just make games, the developer told IGN.

Kojima said in an interview that his next, still-unannounced project will be something that "people expect, but at the same time will have something new that people haven't seen before." And, yes, it will be a "complete" video game.

But Kojima — along with longtime producer Kenichiro Imaizumi and artist Yoji Shinkawa — might move beyond games in the coming years.

"The focus is on digital content, so we could consider movies, animations, anything," Kojima told IGN. "But first I think people expect games from me. That's where I want to put my focus. Once we have an established IP in games, something solid that satisfies people, then we can consider movies and videos."

Kojima, as is often evident in his video game work, is a self-professed cinephile. "70 percent of my body is made of movies," Kojima's English-language Twitter profile says — and given his interest in working with directors like Guillermo del Toro, Kojima Productions' ambition to one day make movies shouldn't come as much of a surprise.

Kojima and Shinkawa offer a few more details on their new venture in IGN's interview.
