Danganronpa 3 heading to PS4, PS Vita next year, new anime incoming

The next entry in Spike Chunsoft's murder-driven mystery series, Danganronpa, will launch for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita next year in Japan.

Series writer Kazutaka Kodaka confirmed the game to Polygon earlier this year; its first trailer debuted at TGS with platform info. A new trailer, which you can watch above, offers a look at Monokuma and his latest slew of high school victims. According to Famitsu, New Danganronpa V3 will take place in a fresh academy and focus on a "psycho cool" theme. The game will include a new "lie" feature in its class trials, the details of which are still scarce.

Additionally, Spike Chunsoft shared info on an upcoming anime, Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak Academy, also set to debut in 2016. The trailer below features a few familiar faces, so you may want to skip it if you're not caught up on the events of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc or Danganronpa: Goodbye Despair.

Danganronpa's main series follows classed of gifted high schoolers forced into a deadly game of murder and deception. As students are killed one-by-one by their classmates, players work to find clues and pinpoint the culprit in a series of events culminating in a trial.

Although release dates for other territories have not been announced, Danganronpa 1 and 2 were released in North America last year. A spinoff title, Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls, launched for PS Vita this year.
