New Kingdom Hearts 3 footage surfaces in 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue trailer

Take a look at the upcoming games 'now in development'

Square Enix debuted a lengthy new trailer for the next two titles in its Kingdom Hearts franchise over the weekend at Jump Festa 2015. Considering the video debut of Kingdom Hearts 3's latest gameplay footage, plus another look at Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, coincided with the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, you'll be forgiven if you overlooked them until now. You can watch the five-minute video comprising both titles above.

Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is a compilation title that was announced back in September, just before Tokyo Game Show 2015. A trailer followed the announcement, featuring slightly different footage than the latest video as well as English voice acting.

The game — which includes all of the following: a new "playable episode" Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep — A Fragmentary Passage; a cinematic called Kingdom Hearts x [chi] Back Cover; and a high-definition remake of the Nintendo 3DS title Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance —will head to the PlayStation 4 sometime in 2016.

Also without a date and in development is Kingdom Hearts 3, which will launch on both PS4 and Xbox One. The game will be the first full release in the main series since 2005's Kingdom Hearts 2 on PlayStation 2. Square Enix announced the long-awaited title in 2013, and has offered brief glimpses at its refined combat system and gameplay since. The footage above isn't entirely new, but does give a bit of a deeper look at what fighting will look like in the game.

Square Enix wasn't the only big name at this year's Jump Festa, which was held in Japan over the weekend. Bandai Namco was also in attendance, and the publisher made a whole slew of game announcements during the event.
