Netflix: What's being added in January

Netflix has named its batch of new releases for January, although with Star Wars: The Force Awakens out, it feels like there isn't any other movie or TV show worth caring about. Even so, those looking to escape the harsh cold of winter might be pleased to know there are some fantastic — and non-Star Wars-related — titles being added.

For comedy fans, January is going to be a fantastic month with new seasons of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, New Girl and Parks and Recreation finally being added to the streaming service. It's Always Sunny will finally add its 1th season to Netflix, while New Girl will add its fourth. Parks and Rec fans will be able to binge the series in its entirety for the first time on Netflix with the seventh and final season of the show.

Genre television fans are also in for a bit of a treat, with the second season of From Dusk Till Dawn. The series, which is based on Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's cult movie of the same name, is launching in its entirety on Jan. 25.

There are also a couple of great films and documentaries being added next month that will satiate the needs of any cinephile.

Drone, one of the best documentaries released last year, is finally heading to the service and should not be missed. The film follows the CIA and its covert drone missions carried out in various parts of the Middle East. With excellent commentary from both sides of the situation, interviews with drone pilots and top level CIA employees, Drone is a fascinating look inside a world that is still relatively new.

There are also a few independent titles being added that may have flown under your radar this year, especially considering just how packed it was with blockbusters.

The Overnight is a perfect example. Starring Adam Scott and Taylor Schilling, this weird but highly enjoyable film follows a couple as they move to a new neighborhood and get to know their odd neighbors. The cinematography is pretty stellar in this movie, which wasn't expected, and has some solid moments of adult comedy.

For those looking to indulge their musical addictions, The Last Five Years is also heading to the service. Anna Kendrick plays struggling actress Kathy who's coping with a failing career and a longterm boyfriend, Jamie (played by Jeremy Jordan), whose career has begun to take off. Based on the broadway play of the same name, the film was met with lukewarm reviews, but Kendrick is absolutely phenomenal in the role.
