Sony announced the release dates for a few of its upcoming animated movies, including one for The Emoji Movie.
According to Coming Soon, The Emoji Movie will hit theaters Aug. 11, 2017, and although there isn't much known about it, Sony did spend close to $1 million to win the rights to the film.
Director and co-writer Anthony Leondis reportedly came up with an entire storyboard for the film based on the tiny characters, but it's unclear just what these emojis will look like.
Sony also announced that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller's upcoming animated Spider-Man movie would be pushed back five months, opening on Dec. 21, 2018 instead of in July. The pair, who are most known for their work on The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, are producing and writing the feature, but won't be directing it; They'll have their hands full with the Han Solo spinoff film, also due out in 2018.
