The Nintendo 2DS handheld will finally be making its way to Japan, thanks to a set of four special Pokémon-themed consoles.
Announced on the official Japanese Pokémon site, the special 2DS systems will honor the 20th anniversary of the first four Pokémon games. The handhelds will come in red, blue, green and yellow, just like the Game Boy Pokémon titles. Not only are the 2DS systems uniquely colored — reminiscent of classic transparent Game Boy Colors — but they come outfitted with a home menu theme inspired by the games, stickers and a poster based on the Kanto region's map.
Along with pre-installed versions of the game that shares the 2DS' color, players will recceive a download code for the rare Pokémon Mew. The code will work with the Virtual Console title as well as the 3DS Pokemon installments: Pokémon X and Y and Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
The company first announced in November that Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow (along with Green in Japan) would be hitting the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console. The game and 2DS will launch Feb. 27 in Japan. There's no Western release confirmed for the Pokémon 2DS yet, but Western gamers will be able to replay the original games on Feb. 27, too.
