Ronda Rousey will share the cover of EA Sports UFC 2 with a male fighter, and a real-life bout will determine who joins her, publisher EA Sports announced today.
UFC 194 will take place Dec. 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, with UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo set to face off against UFC interim featherweight champion Conor McGregor for the undisputed world featherweight championship. They will also be fighting for a spot on the EA Sports UFC 2 cover. EA will reveal the final cover of the game right after the main event ends.
"Aldo and McGregor are two of the biggest stars in the world and it's fitting that next Saturday night the winner not only becomes the undisputed UFC featherweight champion, but also the second global cover athlete of EA Sports UFC 2," said Dana White, president of UFC, in a press release from EA.
In a footnote in the press release, EA did note that it still holds the final say over the cover athletes: "In the event of a draw, substitution, or in its sole discretion, EA reserves the right to select the athletes ultimately used for EA Sports UFC 2's cover." The company has used similar language for the various fan votes it has held with its other sports titles.
EA announced in mid-November that Rousey would be featured on the EA Sports UFC 2 cover. The following day, Rousey was upset by challenger Holly Holm at UFC 193, losing the UFC women's bantamweight championship after six successful title defenses.
Mixed martial arts fans can predict the outcome of UFC 194 on the UFC website, and generate a preview video of their prediction with in-game footage from EA Sports UFC 2. For more on the game, which is set to be released next spring on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, check out the detailed feature set.
