The Game Awards took a break tonight from its awards, announcements and celebration of games to pay a special tribute to former Nintendo president Satoru Iwata.
Iwata passed away in July of this year at the age of 55.
Host Geoff Keighley shared his final memories of Iwata, whom he saw only weeks before his passing. Following a short photo reel, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime took the stage to reflect on Iwata's life and accomplishments.
"Satoru Iwata was one who clearly was unique, in the fullest meaning of the word," Fils-Aime said, delving into his projects and presence at Nintendo.
"The man was fearless."
Concluding the segment was Ben Harper with a musical tribute. You can watch the full video above.
