Star Wars: The Force Awakens has already beaten most box office records, but the film just shattered another one.
The seventh installment in the franchise has officially surpassed Marvel's The Avengers as Disney's highest grossing movie domestically, raking in $629 million.
In comparison, The Avengers made $623.4 million during its run in theaters and profits from The Force Awakens are only going to increase with the New Year holiday.
Globally, The Force Awakens has made $1.29 billion, and according to analysts, could be a contender to replace Avatar as the highest grossing film ever. Avatar currently holds the record with a whopping $2.7 billion.
The Force Awakens just recently opened in China, and considering the size of that potential market, should be crossing the $2 billion mark soon.
