Shovel Knight amiibo arrives in January with exclusive content

Adds co-op, customization and more

The titular hero of Yacht Club Games' Shovel Knight is receiving its own amiibo, the first from an indie developer to be so honored. In a new trailer for the figure, the studio confirms when fans will be able to add Shovel Knight to their amiibo collections: Jan. 8, for the standard price of $12.99.

As seen in the video above, using the figure with the Wii U version of the game affords you new customization options and weapons, while also adding a co-op mode. As previously announced, the local multiplayer feature will be exclusively available to owners of the amiibo.

Check out our review of Shovel Knight, which launched in 2014. An expansion pack, Plague of Shadows, arrived in September. Physical releases for the PlayStation 4 and Wii U versions of the game launched in October. The studio is working with Microsoft to bring the Xbox One version to store shelves, as well, after its retail release was canceled.
