As revealed during the PlayStation Experience 2015 keynote earlier today, Destiny: The Taken King will receive a new Sparrow Racing League mode for a limited time later this month. The new mode won’t go live in the game until Dec. 8, but we were able to go hands-on with both maps at PlayStation Experience.

Watch the video above to see us blast through the Infinite Descent and Campus Martius race tracks against five other live opponents. That first race is a little rough — apologies for that — but we make up for it in the second with a dramatic back-and-forth battle ending in a first-place finish.
Following our hands-on time, Bungie senior PvP designer Derek Carroll confirmed to Polygon that Sparrow Racing League will only feature these two maps right now. It’s also only planned to run for three weeks, as a holiday celebration. However, it could return and grow in the future.
“This is a way to test the waters and see if people think this is fun,” Carroll told us. “Most definitely, we could expand on it in the future. We haven’t decided on if or when it will come back. We’ll see what happens.”
Carroll also clarified that although it was announced at PlayStation Experience, Sparrow Racing League will be available to anyone who owns Destiny: The Taken King, regardless of platform.
