Xbox Live Gold subscribers can play the Xbox One version of The Elder Scrolls Online for free this weekend, as part of Microsoft's Free Plays promotion.

The Elder Scrolls Online's free weekend kicks off on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 9 a.m. PT and runs until Sunday, Dec. 13 at 11:59 p.m. PT. Taking part in the free weekend makes players eligible for Bethesda Softworks' "Million Reasons to Play" contest, in which the publisher is giving away $1 million. Details on that promotion are at The Elder Scrolls Online's official website.

Bethesda promises a discount on The Elder Scrolls Online, which no longer requires a monthly subscription to play, for players who want to purchase the massively multiplayer online game after the free weekend.
