The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is getting a hefty amount of add-on content around the middle of this year, developer Edmund McMillen says. The game's first expansion, titled Afterbirth, will "easily extend the gameplay time by another 100-200 hours," he says, thanks to a long list of new additions.
Here's almost everything — McMillen says there's more to come — in the Afterbirth DLC.
- 100+ new items
- a full new game mode that will totally change how you play
- 10 new challenges
- a new playable character
- a new alternate final chapter
- new alt floors
- new game endings
- new final bosses
- tons of new bosses and enemies
- new item pickups, cards, pills, etc.
- tons of new achievements and rewards for beating the game on hard
- new co-op babies
- new transformations
That's quite a bit, considering how big and replayable The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is already.
McMillen also lists some interesting, fan-suggested challenges for the Afterbirth DLC, including a boss rush battle, one called "Sonic," in which the player starts with 99 coins and dies at zero, and "High Rule," in which the player is outfitted with Mom's Knife, a shield and boomerang. They might not all make it into the DLC, he says, but they're still some quality ideas.
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth was released by McMillen and Nicalis last year for Linux, Mac and Windows PC, as well as PlayStation 4 and Vita.
