Bungie has added former Guild Wars 2 writer John Ryan to the Destiny development team as the game's new "loremaster," Ryan confirmed on Twitter.
The company has aimed to beef up its writing team following the departure of Destiny's lead writer Joseph Staten a year before the game's release. Bungie is also currently looking for a new lead writer and narrative designer, according to its official careers page.
Last year Destiny lost another of its writers when developer Joshua Rubin left the studio a month before the game's launch to join Telltale Games. Rubin had spent two years at Bungie, where he was the creative lead on the Dead Ghosts journal entries Destiny players can find scattered through the world. He also assisted on development of the game's world, building mythology, plotting out season arcs and writing scripts for cinematics and mission dialogue.
So far it's unclear what Ryan's job as loremaster requires. The developer, whose writing credits include contributions to Fable 2, says he will also be working as editor for the studio.
