Link beats out Mario as Nintendo's top-selling amiibo

The Legend of Zelda's Link is the top-selling Nintendo Amiibo figure, according to an investors briefing released earlier today.

The NFC-equipped character is currently outselling long-time Nintendo favorite Mario, who takes second place in the company's list of top 10 highest selling Amiibo in North America.

North America currently makes up roughly 63 percent of Amiibo sales to date, Nintendo confirms. Europe follows as the second highest contributor to sales, while Japan and Australia make up 11 percent and three percent, respectively.

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata has also announced plans to use Amiibo characters to unlock scenes from NES and SNES games that are associated with the particular character. Nintendo now aims to extent the functionality of its Amiibo with the release of NFC-powered cards.

Below is a list of the top 10 highest selling Amiibo figures in North America:

  1. Link
  2. Mario
  3. Pikachu
  4. Kirby
  5. Samus
  6. Yoshi
  7. Zelda
  8. Donkey Kong
  9. Peach
  10. Luigi
