Director Neill Blomkamp, the man behind District 9, Elysium and the upcoming Chappie, says the Alien movie he recently teased is indeed his next project. On Instagram, Blomkamp posted some classic H.R. Giger Alien artwork and commented "Um... So I think it's officially my next film."
A follow-up report from Variety, citing sources, says that Blomkamp has inked a deal with 20th Century Fox to direct a new Alien movie that's separate from Ridley Scott's Prometheus sequel.
Blomkamp teased his Alien project on Instagram in December by posting a handful of concept paintings. In one, he showed what appeared to be a xenomorph queen running through a jungle environment, but hinted that the project had been killed by saying, "Was working on this. Don't think I am anymore. Love it though."
He also showed concept paintings of the Weyland Corporation, the film series' nefarious corporate entity, and characters Ripley and Hicks. Ripley, portrayed by Sigourney Weaver, appeared to be wearing a "space jockey" helmet in one shot, while Hicks, played by Michael Biehn appeared heavily disfigured.
Blomkamp's Chappie hits theaters March 6.
